Cooking
Cooking – I love it. I spent many years working in Pubs as a Barman, then Bar manager and finally a Landlord. The pubs I used to work in were all that horrible term, gastropubs. Fortunately they were privately owned, so basically really nice pubs with really good food. Except for 6 months that I spent as a student at an O’Neils.
So whats this got about cooking – well I worked with some fantastic chefs. My final pub had a recomendation from the Michelin guide so the grub there was really rated.Anyway you can’t work with people for so many yearts without picking up a few hints, tricks and also a bit of passion. I have to also point out that most of the chefs I worked with were nuts. Good luck if you want to be one.
Back to cooking. I’m going to talk about the stuff I cook on the blog. I love cooking, I find it relaxing and I want to share it. What I’m interested in isn’t clever food, or intricate stuff. I like simple easy to cook and more imporatantly easy to clean up after food.
Recently (5/7/09 in case I’m lazy and don’t update this) we’ve decided that we are going to try only using the local fishmonger, butcher and grocer and ONLY use supermarkets for our basics (dishwasher tabs, bog roll etc.). This is going to be really easy for me – cos I don’t need to do much, but more difficult for Tor as she can’t just go to one shop for every thing. The plan is that we are going to use Tesco Direct and hopefully we are only going to use local shops.
So trying to use these rules I want to share the food we are cooking and eating and the good and bad experiences we have
